Who is this course for?

This 5-day course is designed for persons seeking training in the assessment and management of patients in the pre-hospital environment.

Who needs this course?

Anyone who already has Certification in CFR (CFR Advanced or CFR Community) and completed the First Aid Responder course and wishes to build on their First Aid skills.


Training Objectives

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise and assess both common life‐threatening and serious medical conditions in a pre‐hospital environment.
  • Retain a professional manner and approach in the performance of their duties as an EFR.
  • Provide appropriate standard of care utilising the EFR skill set(according to PHECC CPGs) before the Emergency Services arrive on scene.
  • Record and report their actions and interventions appropriately during management and at handover to emergency medical services

              • Module 7: Pharmacology
                • Module 8: Airway and ventilation
                  • Module 9: Respiratory emergencies
                    • Module 10: Cardiovascular emergencies
                      • Module 11: General medical emergencies
                        • Module 12: Bleeding, shock and soft tissue injuries
                          • Module 13: Musculoskeletal, head and spinal injuries
                            • Module 14: Paediatrics
                              • Module 15: Childbirth
                                • Module 16: Information management
                                  • Module 17: Communications
                                    • Module 18: The wellbeing of the EFR
                                      • Module 19: Infection prevention and control
                                        • Module 20: Medico‐legal EFR


                                        Course Assessment:

                                        Learners are assessed on an ongoing basis throughout the course. These include both Formative Assessment & Summative Assessment.

                                        Participants must complete the following:

                                        • MCQ (multiple-choice questions) paper.
                                        • EFR Skill sheets

                                        Participants must achieve a pass mark  of 60%, or greater, in each aspect of the assessment in order to qualify successfully. 


                                        Course Certification:

                                        Successful completion of the Emergency First Responder course leads to certification.
                                        This certificate is awarded by a Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council Authorised Training Organisation who oversee and audit the course.
                                        Recertification in Emergency First Response is required every 3 years.
                                        It is also necessary to retain CFR Advanced or CFR Community certification every 2 years.

                                        Any special needs/requirements should be identified at the time of booking. Participants should be dress in comfortable clothing that allows them to engage comfortably in the skills sections of the course such as CPR and the Recovery Position.
